- Just finished Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson and loved it - In retrospect, most of the book was fairly slow until the last third which just keeps ramping up in intensity. I didn't mind the beginning of the book, but I wasn't propelled forward like I am with other books and like I was by the last third. - It's a lot more pop-fiction-y than I expected it to be? I anticipated it being kind of a slog, maybe a bit more Tolkien-esque with long winded descriptions and whatnot, but every part moved quickly enough into the next that it was a pretty easy read. - Not to give too much away, but this is especially true with the ending, which feels like it ends up very satisfying without being too obtuse or edgy. - All the various forms of setup, foreshadowing, and payoff are *very* satisfying. - I guess one thing that it lacks is that it doesn't have like a crazy amount of high level thematic satisfication or pay-off, but it is very fun. - I really love how frequently the characters are coming up with new ways to use their simple powers. I had kind of expect the magic power system to be elaborate and elegant, but really it was just as much as the plot needed. maybe the more elaborate parts will come in future books.
